Hey Class,
So today I am back downtown for my featured spot.
Today’s feature is honestly one of my favorite spots in town. Here you can get yummy food, yummy coffee, free Internet connection and a cozy place to sit and chat. No I am not talking about Panera. I am referring to State College’s locally owned Irvings café. This lovely place is located on College Av. Not far from its intersection with Allen Street.
Irvings is probably best known for its fresh bagels (my personal favorite is the tomato-basil one) and their coffee selection (I absolutely love the pumpkin spice latte they offer in the fall!). However, the menu is not limited to these two items. It also includes salads, soups, and an assortment of sandwiches. You can even get pizza bagels and by that I don’t mean a flavor of bagel but a toasted bagel with sauce and cheese. I have yet to try one but they always look appetizing when they come out from the kitchen.
Something I really love about Irvings is the ambiance. Most times there is a low rumble of chatter that makes it cheery and full of life but at the same time it is not overwhelming nor distracting. It is a dynamic spot because it’s a great place to go find a small table, grab a cup of your favorite drink (non-alcoholic) and sit and catch up with a long-lost friend but at the same time you don’t have to feel out-of-place for heading over there for a study date with your headphones and laptop.
In the lower level there are more chairs and tables as well two couches and a small coffee table to just relax. They also have a small selection of board games in case that is your thing.
All in all, it’s a pretty chill hangout whether you’re looking for a quick yet rather yummy lunch, a mid afternoon cup of coffee with a friend or a serene place to study. If you haven’t been there yet I strongly suggest you check it out. Plus you will be supporting local business (YAY!).
Let me know what you think!
